What is Forming Ideas?

Forming Ideas was a professional development programme that ran from October 2008 until April 2011. The programme aimed to broaden and strengthen the debate around contemporary craft practice and to build national and international networks. It was funded by Arts Council England and www.artscouncil.org.uk designed and managed by ArtProjects and Solutions - www.artprojectsandsolutions.com

Forming Ideas was part of Arts Council England’s Forming the Future - a strategic programme for the Crafts in England that also comprised Museum Maker and The Shape of Things.

What did Forming Ideas do?

The programme offered curators of craft and visual arts in England the opportunity to take part in

international research visits to Cairo, all five Nordic countries and Brazil. Curators were then asked to work together to come up with ways by which to disseminate their research findings. Information about the visits include itineraries and images and can be accessed by clicking on the country buttons Egypt/Nordic C/Brazil. Information about the debating events can be accessed by clicking on Conferences

What now?

Now the programme has finished we are in the process of evaluating it - the evaluation will be on this website shortly.

Longer term we hope that exhibitions, events and publications will result from the research undertaken by the Forming Ideas participating curators. Tracking these events will soon be possible via this website.
