This dynamic and experimental exhibition is the result of a yearlong collaboration between the Hub and the Textile Study Group. VisualThinking – Unpicked, is an exhibitionexploring the creative process of 14 textile practitioners, who are pioneeringin the field of textile practice and education.
Film, artefacts, photographs, installations, textile and drawingsare exhibited, exploring the causes and influences behind the unique and oftenvery private creative process.
The Textile Study Group is a diverse group of nationally andinternationally renowned artists and tutors, who have established a reputationfor excellence. Over the last 25 years, Textile Study Group members havepublished numerous books and magazine articles and exhibit their work atprestigious venues both internationally and nationally.
A related symposium accompanies the exhibition, held at theHub: National Centre for Craft and Design on the 24th April 2010. Thissymposium furthers the enquiry into the rationale and reasoning behind creativetriggers and aesthetic impulses. Confirmed speakers include: June Hill Freelance Curator (formerly of BankfieldMuseum Halifax and David Littler, Director of London Printworks Trust, the UK’sleading resource for experimental printed textiles. This exhibition and associated events are a rare opportunityto engage in dialogue and exchange with the artists and experience a conceptualapproach to textile practice, process and making.

The exhibiting artists are:
Sarah Burgess, Mary Sleigh, Ann Wheeler, Rosemary Campbell,Jan Miller, Sian Martin, Mary Youles, Jenny Blackburn, Kay Greenlees, GavinFry, Shelley Rhodes, Ros Chilcot, Janina Evans and Alison King.
Notes for Editors:
The Hub: National Centre for Craft & Design opened in October 2003. Located in the rural markettown of Sleaford, Lincolnshire, the Hub is one of the largest spaces in the UKdedicated to the promotion and celebration of contemporary craft and design. Aswell as a café bar and shop, the Hub provides two gallery spaces with achanging programme of international and national craft and design.
