Career Path
Trained as an art historian with specialist knowledge of Islamic art and architecture Camilla has, over the last decade, acquired a deep knowledge of contemporary art practice across the Middle East and Islamic world and is regularly invited to speak, write and lecture on this subject. Prior to becoming freelance Camilla worked for the British Council (Visiting Arts) where she initiated a number of pioneering cultural projects. She has extensive international experience working with a broad range of clients on cultural diplomacy projects. Camilla was a Board member of AXIS for 3 years, is an elected member of AICA (Association of International Art Critics) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Now based in Barcelona Camilla works as an Associate with ArtProjects and Solutions working on the Forming Ideas programme and developing including ‘The Jameel Prize’ – a major new art prize run by the Victoria & Albert Museum which APS have recently been appointed to run. She also worked on the professional development programme that ACE commissioned them to carry out as part of the ‘National Strategy for Crafts’. She has also undertaken various projects and commissions as a freelance consultant for clients including Arts Council England, Tate Britain, The British Museum, The V&A magazine and Bidoun magazine.
