Career Path
Liz Cooper is the Craft Development Curator at Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery, in Suffolk, a gallery known for programming contemporary craft within the wider visuals arts context and also for its four-yearly juried exhibitions of Art Textiles. Her post was established in early 2008 with funding from EsmeƩ Fairbairn Foundation, to increase the provision of exhibitions, commissions and professional development opportunities for craft-focused artists, especially across the East of England. Liz studied textiles as a mature student at Goldsmiths College and has since worked as a senior administrator for Contemporary Art Society and Studio Voltaire, as well as pursuing a freelance career in textile exhibitions, working on various projects with UK and international artists and curators such as Alice Kettle, Tilleke Schwarz, Barbara Lee Smith, Lesley Millar and June Hill. Apart from textiles she is also particularly interested in glass and furniture, and in artists working across disciplines.
