Michelle Bowen

History

Career Path: Michelle Bowen has worked within the creative sector for over 18 years. She has worked as both a self-employed artist, and in some of the leading commercial contemporary applied art galleries in Britain including six years as Director of the prestigious Oxford Gallery. In 2001 she joined the Crafts Council as Professional Development Officer responsible for numerous seedbed activities including the Crafts Council Development Award (formerly the setting up grant). Since 2004 she has worked for Arts Council England, East Midlands as Craft and Design Officer providing the organisation with a strategic overview of both regional and national craft and design development. Since working at Arts Council England, Michelle has launched several new schemes and projects in the region including the nationally acclaimed museumaker. Michelle has a broad and deep knowledge of the issues that face new creative businesses especially in the marketplace and has enabled many leading makers to get started in their careers.
