Career Path
Simon Martin is Head of Curatorial Services at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, the winner of the Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year 2007 and shortlisted for European Museum of the Year 2009. He is responsible for the Gallery’s collection of modern and contemporary British and International art and its programme of temporary exhibitions and contemporary installations. He has an MA in Cultural Identity and European Art from the Courtauld Institute and a BA in History of Art from the University of Warwick. Simon is the International Art Advisor to the Contemporary Art Museum in Kumamoto, Japan. He writes for Ceramic Review on modern and contemporary ceramics. This summer, he curated ‘Salthouse 09’ for the North Norfolk Exhibition Project, an exhibition in the Grade 1-listed Salthouse church featuring site-specific work by 50 artists and makers, including ceramics, installation, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, stone and wood carving.
