Career Path
Zelina Garland has worked at Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery since 1999. She manages a team of eleven curators, leading the development and delivery of curatorial work across the service: developing specialist knowledge of BM&AG’s collections, making collections and related research accessible to the public, and developing local, regional, national and international partnerships. Previously, as Curator of Applied Art, she was responsible for historic and contemporary applied art collections - textiles, dress, ceramics and glass: acquisitions, documentation, loans, public access, display, research and interpretation. She also curated and project-managed a wide range of temporary exhibitions and community engagement projects, including: Journeys – A Gallery Trail exploring Muslim Cultures, 2007-8, Art & Islam: Jafar Dabiri & Unaiza Karim, 2007 and Illuminating Faith - Art & Culture from the Middle East 2004-5.

Curator Visit Expectations
I hope to develop my knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design practice in Cairo, to research potential acquisitions for BM&AG’s collection, and share experience and expertise with colleagues from the UK and Egypt.
